జవాబు: డెడ్‌సీ (Dead sea) అని పిలిచే మృత సముద్రం మిగతా సముద్రాలతో సంబంధం లేకుండా ఒక పెద్ద కొలనులాగా ఉంటుంది. సుమారు 50 కిలోమీటర్ల పొడవు, 15 కిలోమీటర్ల వెడల్పుతో ఇజ్రాయిల్‌, జోర్డాన్‌ దేశాల మధ్య విస్తరించి ఉంది. ఇది ప్రపంచంలోనే అతి తక్కువ ఎత్తులో ఉన్న సరస్సు. దీంట్లో సముద్రాలలో కన్నా లవణీయత పదిరెట్లు ఎక్కువ. అంటే ఉప్పు వంటి అనేక లవణాల గాఢత విపరీతంగా ఉండడం వల్ల ఇందులో చేపలు, తిమింగలాలు, నాచు, కోరల్స్‌ వంటి పెద్ద జీవజాతులు బతకలేవు. అందుకే దీన్ని మృత సముద్రం అన్నారు. కేవలం తక్కువ స్థాయిలో కొన్ని బాక్టీరియాలు, ఫంగస్‌ జీవులు ఉంటాయి.
మృతసముద్రంలో ఉప్పు శాతం విపరీతంగా ఉండడం వల్ల ఈ నీటి సాంద్రత 1.24 గ్రా/మి.లీ. ఉంటుంది. అందుకే మనుషులు తదితర జీవులు మునగవు. ఈత కొట్టవలసిన అవసరం లేకుండానే నీళ్లలో తేలవచ్చు. మనుషులు మునగనంత మాత్రాన మిగతా వస్తువులు కూడా మునగవని అనుకోడానికి లేదు. ప్లవన సూత్రాల ప్రకారం ద్రవాల సాంద్రత కన్నా వస్తువుల సాంద్రత ఎక్కువయితే ఆ వస్తువులు ఆ ద్రవంలో మునుగుతాయి. తక్కువయితే తేలుతాయి. కాబట్టి 1.24 గ్రా/మి.లీ. కన్నా ఎక్కువ సాంద్రత ఉన్న ఇనుము, రాళ్లు వంటివి తప్పకుండా మునుగుతాయి.

Where is dead sea? It lies in the border of Israel and Jordan and is the lowest place on Earth.
Don’t go with the name. Though it sounds very dead, its a popular tourist destination. In fact, tourists are encouraged to swim in it because it acts as a health treatment.
How did it get its name?
Originally called the salty lake, because it is full of salt, Roman Era, visitors to Judea had begun to refer to the sea as the ‘Dead Sea’, as they were mostly struck with how the waters were devoid of all life-forms, whether plants or living creatures.
So, there’s no fear of sharks, and most of the tourists enjoy a mineral rich swim like mud treatments and salt baths which leads to many health benefits.
Biblically, the Dead Sea was a place of refuge for King David. It was one of the world’s first health resorts (for Herod the Great), and it has been the supplier of a wide variety of products, from balms for Egyptian mummification to potash for fertilizers.

The Dead Sea is landlocked and in the lowest valley on earth. All the minerals of the surrounding countryside get washed into one pool, which in turn gets baked by the sun. This concentrates the salts so much so that the Dead Sea becomes times as salty as the ocean, which defines why people don’t drown in the dead sea.

The more salt is dissolved in water, the denser it becomes.
Objects which drop in water stop sinking when they displace a mass of water equal to their body mass.
In dense, salty water, a little body displaces a lot of mass, and most of the body stays out of the water so, it’s hard to drown a person when most of their body is floating on top of the water.
The Dead Sea water has a density of 1.24 kg/litre, which makes swimming similar to floating.
There are two more reasons why people are dying in the Dead Sea, becoming a dangerous place to be
1. People might poison themselves with salt. Massive doses of salt hurt the heart and kidneys and cause the body to shut down
2. The fact that you can’t put your foot on the ground acts as a danger because when someone starts drowning with their head inside, the only way to save themselves is to put your feet on the ground and swimmers know how difficult it is.
