Sub:-School Education – Empowering Girls in High Schools- Conduct of World Menstruation Day on 28.05.2022 – Certain instructions issued to the RJDs and DEOs in the State – Reg


The attention of all the Regional Joint Directors and District
Educational Ofcers in the state is invited to the subject cited above
and it is informed that the Menstrual Hygiene Day (MHD, MH Day in
short) is on May 28th to highlight the importance of
good Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) among the girl students.
It aims to create an occasion for publicizing information in the media,
including social media. Public information campaigns can help to
engage decision-makers in policy dialogue. The day ofers an
opportunity to actively advocate for the integration of menstrual
hygiene management (MHM) into local policies and programmes


In this connection, an event may be conducted by involving trained
Master Resource Persons and peer educated children on MHM for
raising the awareness with the following objectives:


• For creating awareness on safe use and disposal of sanitary
pads.
• Explain the concepts about basics on Menarche, Hygiene
during menstruation, Science behind Menstruation,
Misconceptions and right approaches and Safe Disposal.
• Promotion of best practices at Menstrual time.
• To address the challenges and hardships many women and
girls face during their menstruation.
• To highlight the positive and innovative solutions being taken
to address these challenges.
• Organizing any activity related to MHM and displaying videos
on MHM for motivation.
• To engage in policy dialogue and actively advocate for the
integration of menstrual hygiene management (MHM) into
local policies and programmes.

Further all the Regional Joint Directors and District Educational Officers in the State are informed to bring awareness among the
students on disposal of sanitary napkins to adolescent girl students
with the following objectives after reopening of schools.

I. Every School shall provide a dust bin (used napkin bin) in every girl’s
toilet.


II. The aaya shall dispose the used napkins by emptying the bins every
day.


III.The HMs shall buy sufficient napkin bins for all adolescent girls.


IV.Every bathroom shall have a minimum of 10 newspapers at all times
to facilitate sanitary napkin disposal.


V. Every bin shall have 120 litre garbage bag at any given time, need
to buy 20 bags per month.


VI.The aaya should dispose the garbage bags into town/ village
sanitation disposal system.


VII.The HMs shall buy these items either from SMF or school grant fund
available with them.

VIII.The HM/ Teacher designated shall take photograph of bins along
with photos of toilets in TMF app.

Therefore, all the Regional Joint Directors of School Education and
District Educational Officers in the State are informed to take necessary
action to conduct the event on MHM on 28th May, 2022 in all Districts
accordingly.
