1. The attention of all the Regional Joint Directors of School Education and District Educational Officers in the state is invited to the reference 2 read above, orders were issued to conduct the summative assessment 1 from 02-01-2023 to 10-01-2023.
2. Further the Government of Andhra Pradesh has put several dedicated efforts to bring up a radical transformation in School Education with the long-term objective of preparing the students of Andhra Pradesh for a bright future.
3. The government has unleashed a new era of education by strengthening the education value chain and implementing educational reforms with a vision to transform the education eco-system by investing in child-centric interventions along the improvement in entire canvas of the education value chain by improving the learning outcomes, with specific focus on foundational literacy and numeracy thereby making every child globally competitive.
The Government of Andhra Pradesh prioritises School Education by launching initiatives such as Jagananna Ammavodi, Mana Badi Nadu-Nedu, Jagananna Vidya Kanuka, Jagananna Gorumudda, curriculum reforms, establishing the Toilet Maintenance Fund (TMF), School Maintenance Fund (SMF), supplying Samsung Tabs to 8th grade students, and comprehensive academic and administrative reforms with the goal of improving children’s learning outcomes.
5. The world’s highest education accolade Yidan Prize Winner for 2021, Professor Hanushek says that the education plays a massive role in enhancing the human capital of the population and results in achieving high rates of invention and innovation by the individuals as well as society. The state of Andhra Pradesh is having one of the largest public school education systems in the country, the literacy rate stands at only 67.35%. 7. To address this learning gap and ensure the appropriate class-specific learning outcomes among children, the government has taken up various initiatives that are being implemented from 2022-2033 by introducing learning apps such as Google Read Along, PAL, Byju’s, etc., for providing remedial teaching, teacher capacity building, and effective academic monitoring. The government signed an agreement with Byju’s to provide free access to its products from classes 4 to 10.
8. The entire content is available on a tablet and is portable; in addition to text, videos, audio, animations, and voiceovers make learning an immersive experience by engaging all senses; student self-learning and self-evaluation; and personal adaptive learning aids in targeted learning interventions.
9. The following certain studies are saying that:
Tablets have improved pedagogy, according to various national and international studies, by allowing teachers to tailor their teaching style to the needs of individual students and by providing innovative ways of learning. This was especially helpful for students with special needs. The devices have also improved student, teacher, and parent interaction with learning. In particular, parents were more involved with their child’s school and education, as a Dixons City Academy educator observed: “Somehow, that interaction [learning composition] was much more intense with the tablet, and they were much more motivated and Involved and worked faster.” The task didn’t feel like work. In addition, tablets have been found to promote both independent learning and collaboration with teachers and other students. In the study by Rishu Bala, Research Scholar, Department of Education, Punjabi University, Patiala, it is revealed that setting ethical standards and guidelines for correct mobile use will assist students in achieving a healthy balance. It was also said that mobile usage has a detrimental impact on students’ academic behaviour in schools,
10. Even though the government is spending a lot of money to provide the digital Infrastructure to government schools, without proper utilisation, monitoring, and assessment, the investment in facilities will not yield the expected results.
11. Therefore, it is proposed to evaluate the use of tabs by students in the VIII class in the upcoming Summative Assessment-1 In Mathematics and General Science in government schools as a one-time measure.
12. Therefore, all the District Educational Officers in the State are requested to conduct the SA-1in Mathematics and General Science for eighth-class students studying in government schools with the existing questions in TABS provided by the state government and for all other subjects of class VIII and subjects of all classes for all management schools the question papers are common. The syllabus is the same as prescribed by the SCERT AP for Summative Assessment-1.
13. In this regard the District Educational Officers are requested to print and supply the question papers for class VIII students of government schools for mathematics and general science through DCEBS which were prepared by SCERT-AP based on the questions existing in TABS in the prescribed syllabus. The question papers for Mathematics and General Science in Class VIll which were already printed for government school students, may be used for practise purposes after the Sankranti vacation.
14. This has got the Approval of the Commissioner of School Education, Andhra Pradesh.
